WILMINGTON, MA — Mary Constance “Connie” Phillips, of Goffstown, NH and long time Wilmington resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 9, 2018 and is now in glory with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
The only daughter of George Jones and Amy Usher Whitten, she was born on October 10, 1919 in Portland ME where she spent her childhood.
She married Wallace K. Phillips in 1939 and together they raised 10 children on Ballardvale Street in Wilmington, MA. A born again believer, Connie placed her faith and trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1971. She attended Andover Bible Chapel and hosted Bible studies regularly in her home. Connie’s commitment to her family was unconditional, and her generosity and graciousness was evident to all who knew her.
While raising her family, Connie participated in civic activities, volunteered at the local Teen Canteen, and served on the state Republican Committee. At the young age of 80, Connie decided to make many of her dreams realities. She refined her artistic abilities and displayed talent in her pencil drawings and paintings. As a history enthusiast, she traveled to Europe and Hawaii, experiencing many of the places she had long read about. Connie was an avid reader and writer her entire life; she penned many memoirs and poems and is a published poet in the National Library of Poetry.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace K. Phillips; her sons, Kenneth Phillips, Brian Phillips, and Barry Phillips; and her daughter, Sharon Fox. Connie is survived by sons Gregory Phillips and wife, Barbara; Gary Phillips and wife, Linda; Stephen Phillips and wife, Kathleen; Matthew Phillips and wife, Cheryl; daughters, Pamela Marino, and husband, Gene; Nancy Lichtenwalner and husband, Phillip; daughter-in-laws, Diane Phillips, and Alice MacDonald; and son-in-law, John Fox.
Connie was the proud grandmother of 26 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA on Thursday, May 17th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The memorial service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Church in North Reading, MA on Friday, May 18th at 5:00PM with refreshments to follow. There will be a private burial preceding the memorial service for family and those that were closest to her.
