WHS SOFTBALL: Wildcats Defeat Winchester (9-3) & Arlington (5-2) To Improve To 7-2

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (6-2) defeated Winchester High by a score of 9-3 on Wednesday, May 2 in Winchester.

The win was behind the arm and bat of Ally Moran. At bat, Ally Moran went 2-3 with a sacrifice and 3 RBI.  On the mound, she allowed just one earned run.

Also swinging hot bats were Dana Goulet going 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Kacie  Bourrell going 2-4, and Aliyah Tang with 2 RBI.

Leadoff batter Kayla Bourrell got on base and scored 3 times via walks or error.

In its first night game of the season, the Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (7-2) defeated Arlington High by a score of 5-2 on Friday, May 4 at Town Park in Wilmington.

It was an exciting game by both teams with each team pulling off two double plays.

Arlington’s first batter reached base on a dropped third strike and immediately stole second base.  The second batter lined back to second baseman Liz Gordon who immediately threw to shortstop Dana Goulet doubling off the runner.  Not to be outdone, Arlington completed their first double play in the bottom half of the inning.  Dana Goulet reached base on an error but was cut down at third base on an infield out by Antonia Kieran (6-3-5).

Arlington scored in the second inning but stranded runners on second and third.  The Wildcats roared back by loading the bases via two hit by pitch and a walk.  Ryan Bailey got her first RBI of her night with a single plating Ashely Crawford (courtesy runner for Ally Moran).  Aliyah Tang completed the scoring for the inning with a fielders choice, allowing Adele Burton to score.

Arlington had a scoring chance in the third when, after one out, the second batter up roped a hit to right field.  A great relay by right fielder Jenna Sweeney to shortstop Dana Goulet to third baseman Adele Burton, kept hit to a triple.  Pitcher Ally Moran roared back to strike out the next two batters.  Kieran led off the Wildcats third inning with a single and scored on the second RBI of the night by Ryan Bailey.

In the sixth inning, Arlington had a lead off double.  She advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an infield hit.  Wildcats lead was now cut to one 3-2.  In the bottom of the inning, Kacie Bourrell reached base on an infield error.  Kayla Bourrell laid down a great bunt and reached base on the error by the third baseman.  Dana Goulet walked to load the bases. Antonia Kieran (RBI) had a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Kacie Bourrell. Ally Moranalso also had a sacrifice fly to left,scoring Kayla. Bourrell.

In the top of the seventh, the lead off batter reached base via an error. She was caught stealing when the Wildcats had a strike ’em out and throw ’em out (Aliyah Tang to Dana Goulet) double play.

Pitcher Ally Moran allowed only 4 hits with 8 strikeouts.
