WILMINGTON, MA — Ruby May Seville (Smith), age 84, of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Ruby was born in Bishop’s Cove, Newfoundland, Canada on September 6, 1933; she was the dear daughter of the late Esau and Lily May Smith. At age 2, Ruby, moved with her family to the United States and they settled in North Reading, MA. Ruby lived in the Martins Pond area of North Reading where she enjoyed swimming and skating with her many friends and family. She was a graduate of Reading High School with the Class of 1951. As a loyal friend, she remained close with many of her childhood friends reminiscing and laughing over their fun antics. After high school, Ruby enjoyed working at the B&M Railroad and told many stories of her traveling by train along the northeast tracks. While raising a family, she worked part-time as a key punch operator at Chesterton.
Ruby married her “sweetheart” Richard “Dick” Seville on December 2, 1956. The couple moved to his hometown Rosedale, Indiana for a few years before returning to Massachusetts to be closer to her family. Ruby and Dick settled in Wilmington in the early 1960’s and raised four wonderful children; they shared nearly 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2006. Family was everything to Ruby; she was a terrific daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who looked forward to many family gatherings, back yard cookouts, traveling and taking their annual vacation to Maine. Ruby was devoted to attending church and having her mom over for the Sunday meal. She was a great cook and a terrific hostess; she loved having her children and grandchildren over for dinners, holidays, and special occasions.
In her spare time, Ruby enjoyed taking a “dip” in the pool, playing a fun game of croquet, going “outlet shopping” and out for coffee with her friends. Ruby was also known to be a “die hard” Boston sports fan whose favorite teams to watch were the Red Sox and Patriots.
Ruby will be fondly remembered as a wonderful lady who showered her family and friends with unconditional love; she was kind, caring, and giving. She was social and liked to laugh and joke with people. Ruby will be forever in hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.
Ruby was the beloved wife of the late Richard D. “Dick” Seville, devoted mother of Kathleen M. Seville & Michael Butler of Tewksbury, Eric D. Seville & wife Cheryl of Hobe Sound, FL, Judith Ann S.
