The Wilmington Insider For March 28, 2018

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Wednesday, March 28, 2018:

Happening Today:

Weather: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

At Wilmington Public Schools: The Wilmington School Committee meets at 7pm in the High School’s Large Instruction Room. Read the agenda HERE.

In The Community: A new football team for Wilmington Middle School students is being formed. An informational meeting will be held at 7pm at the Middle School. The team is open for 7th and 8th graders, plus 6th graders who do not make Pop Warner. Players of all experience levels are welcome. Participating in the team is great preparation for high school football.  WHS Head Coach Craig Turner will be present at the meeting. Learn more HERE.

In The Community: Know someone who is getting married?  The Massachusetts Bridal & Wedding Expo is taking place from 3pm to 9pm,at the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road). The event features more than 100 exhibitors, covering all aspects of a wedding — gowns, florists, hair & makeup, honeymoon destinations, wedding and event planners, guest accommodations & hotels, photographers, videographers, DJs, bands, photo booths, decor & lighting, reception & wedding venues, tuxedos, jewelry and more. The event also includes live music, demonstrations, fashion shows, and giveaways. Admission costs $15 at the door.  You can, however, register online and pay just a $3 admission HERE.  Children under 16 are free. Parking is free.

In The Community: WCTV is holding a class on Twitter at 7pm at WCTV Headquarters (10 Waltham Street). Interested in learning how to setup a Twitter Account? Want to learn about having a stronger social media presence? Come learn all about the various aspects of social media especially those pertaining to “Twitter.” Refreshments provided.

In The Community: The Wilmington Police Department offers safety seat installs at the Wilmington Public Safety Building (1 Adelaide Street) every Wednesday, from 10am to 2pm. No appointment is necessary, but calling ahead at 978-658-5071 is recommended. Learn more HERE.

In The Community: The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.

Leaves/Brush Drop Off: The Wilmington Yardwaste Center on Old Main Street will be open today from 8am to 2pm for the drop-off of leaves and brush. Residents will need to purchase a punch-card for $15 in order to enter the yardwaste center. Punch-cards will be available for purchase through the Collector’s Office at Town Hall and will allow up to 5 vehicle trips to the yardwaste center per card. NO GRASS CLIPPINGS OR STUMPS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Commercial vehicles will not be allowed. Make sure to bring photo identification to show you are a Wilmington resident.
