WILMINGTON, MA — Henry P. Appleby, Sr., of Wilmington, formerly of Somerville, passed away March 16, 2018 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, following a short illness. He was 79 years of age. Henry was the beloved husband of the late Catherine “Irene” (McKinnon). Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Henry and Alice (Woods) Appleby.
“Harry” as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was a Wilmington resident for over twenty years. Prior to his retirement he worked as a manager in the construction rental equipment industry. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was also a member of the Industrial Union of Marine and Shipbuilding Union Local 5 and the Wilmington American Legion Post 136. In his leisure time he enjoyed reading, woodworking, had an extensive comic book collection and loved animals. His greatest joy was his family and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Harry is survived by his children, Ralph Daigle and Diane Sarica of Billerica, Patty Stephens and her husband Peter of Oregon, Harry Appleby, Jr. and his wife Katherine of Wilmington, Paul Appleby and his wife Patricia of Melrose, Terrie Lee Appleby of California, and the late John Daigle. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Brother of Alice Hanrick of North Carolina, Joan Roy of Oregon, the late Daniel Appleby and Dorothy Daniels.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Wilmington, Saturday, March 24th, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Peabody.
