WILMINGTON, MA — Robert J. Nicholas, Sr., “Bob”, age 81, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 14, 2018.
Bob was born in Boston, MA on March 22, 1936; he was the dear son of the late William E. Sr. and Amelia (White) Nicholas. Bob was raised and educated in West Newton and Dedham.
Bob married his “sweetheart” Lucille Cudworth on February 23, 1957; the couple lived in Brighton and Dorchester before moving to Wilmington 1965.
Bob was known to be a hard worker throughout his life; for many years he worked as a painter for the State of Massachusetts Mental Health Division all while attending school to further his education. Bob learned heating, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical and plumbing. In the mid 1970’s he ventured out and started his own company RJN heating. Bob was excellent at his trade and wonderful with his customers; he built quite a client base through his work ethic, customer care, and his ability to treat others in a fair and decent manner. In his later years as his health declined he finally retired and turned the business over to his late son Robert Nicholas Jr. who continued the family tradition and ran the business well until his sudden death earlier this year.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling, reading, listening to talk radio and most of all going on long walks with family.
Bob will be fondly remembered as a quiet guy who worked hard and loved his family and friends with all his heart.
Bob was the beloved husband of 61 years to Lucille F. (Cudworth) Nicholas of Wilmington, devoted father of Lusann Wishart of Londonderry, NH, Patricia Toner & husband Jim of Billerica, Pamela Harris and her partner Jim Rohrbacher of Hudson, NH, Richard Nicholas of Wilmington, and the late Robert J. Nicholas Jr. Loving “Grandpa” of Jason, Billy, Alyssa, Jaclyn, Carmilla, Robert III, Rachel, and great-granddaughter Jenavive. He was the cherished son of the late William and Amelia Nicholas, dear brother of the late Mary Epps, William E. Nicholas, Jr. and Gloria Dobrowolski. Bob is also survived by his sisters-in-law Beryl Nicholas and Barbara Jirkovsky as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
