Chopps Champions To Accept Nominations For Local Heroes From March 12 To March 23

BURLINGTON, MA — Chopps Champions, an annual online community-wide contest to recognize and salute local heroes in Business, Community, Education, First Responders / Military, Healthcare and Technology, is celebrating its 5th year by expanding from exclusively Burlington to include north suburban towns.

The public is invited to nominate themselves or others who demonstrate excellence in their field through leadership, achievement, and volunteerism. Nominees must live or work in Burlington, Bedford, Billerica, Carlisle, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, Wilmington, Woburn or Hanscom Air Force Base.

The community-wide contest kicks off March 12th. Entries are being accepted through March 23rd only at Choppschampions.com. Participants may nominate themselves or others by simply submitting either a picture and written story (up to 400 words) or a videotaped story (1-3 minutes long) explaining how they have demonstrated excellence in their field and why they should be considered a Local Hero.

“Hosting Chopps Champions is our way of honoring men and women who have made a big impact in the lives of so many,” said Mark Young, General Manager of the Boston Marriott Burlington. “To celebrate our fifth year, we are thrilled to expand our scope and invite those who live and work in other north suburban towns to join their neighbors in Burlington in this exciting process and recognize the heroes who live in their local communities.”

Voting will be open to the public March 27th – April 6th, and participants should encourage their friends, family and co-workers to vote for their entry at Choppschampions.com.  In May, six Chopps Champions, one representing each category, will be honored as a Local Hero.  In addition to winning prizes, Chopps Champions will be asked to choose a favorite charity to which the hotel will donate $1,000 per champion.

Last year’s champions and the charities they chose were: Lisa Healy, Nashoba Learning Group; Judy Walsh, People Helping People; Jourdon Marino, The Catherine Pappas and Family Pediatric Oncology Challenge; Don Tocci, National MS Society; Suzy Shields, Relay for Life of Burlington & The Connor Flanagan Foundation; Jen Dodge, Relay for Life of Burlington.
