Wilmington’s May Center School For Autism & Developmental Disabilities Fundraising For New Playground

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a fundraising message from Wilmington’s May Center School:

The May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in Wilmington recently moved to a bigger site to better meet the growing needs of the community. In addition to bright new classrooms, the new facility has a 3,000 square-foot outdoor play area ready for development.

Opportunity for play is critical to the education and healthy development of the children we serve at the Wilmington school.  Play helps children with autism develop language and communication skills, thinking and problem-solving skills, and social skills.  With the addition of a playground, our teachers can incorporate physical play that provides whole-body exercise and helps develop gross motor skills. We expect our new playground will give our students the experience of interacting with each other and with the objects within the play space.

The equipment we hope to purchase is designed for children of all levels of ability and include swings, a “talk tube,” a glider, and components with ground and climbing activities.  We also need to install safe surfacing.

Your tax deductible donation will enhance our ability to meet the therapeutic, recreational, and learning needs of the students at the May Center School in Wilmington.

Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.”  ~Mr. Rogers
