WILMINGTON, MA — On the afternoon of Thursday, February 1, the family of Charlee Shay Jacques was awarded $5,000 from Cops For Kids With Cancer at a ceremony at the Wilmington Public Safety Building. Charlee, who is two years old, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma last year and recently underwent a stem cell transplant.
Cops for Kids with Cancer is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization focused on raising funds to provide assistance to families of children fighting cancer to improve their quality of life. The funds that they raise go to people directly involved in the care of children with cancer, with each family typically receiving $5,000. The money is given with no strings attached. The family can use the funds for whatever needs they may have while their child is battling their illness. Since 2004, Cops For Kids With Cancer has awarded almost $3,000,000 to families dealing with illness.
Chief Michael Begonis welcomed Charlee, her family, and guests to the Wilmington Public Safety Building. Chief Begonis noted that Charlee’s family is the 6th Wilmington family to receive a grant from Cops With Cancer and stated that although unlikely, he hopes this is the last.
The check was presented to Charlee’s parents, Erica Jensen & Kyle Jacques, by Edward McNelly who is a member of the Board of Directors of Cops For Kids With Cancer.
The Wilmington Police Department is proud to support Cops For Kids with Cancer and we thank the organization for all they have done for families in Wilmington as well as families throughout the area that are dealing with childhood cancer.
