WILMINGTON, MA — Elizabeth Bourassa (Smith), fondly known as “Betty” or “Bett” to her family and friends, age 79, of Wilmington, died peacefully on January 27, 2018, at Care One in Wilmington.
Betty was born on September 23, 1938, in Wakefield, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late Esau and Lily May Smith. Betty was raised and educated in North Reading and was a member of the Church of the Good Shepard in Reading.
Betty married her “sweetheart” Donat Bourassa in 1955; the couple settled in Wilmington where they raised four wonderful children and had many great times throughout the years. Betty was very devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was very active in her younger years with her children’s school and sporting activities and later in life she attended all of her grandchildren’s activities as well. Betty and Donat enjoyed camping with their family and friends for many years; everyone always had a great time together.
Prior to retiring, Betty worked as a collections manager for the Internal Revenue Service for over 29 years. Betty had a great work ethic and excellent customer service skills which made her quite an asset to the IRS. Betty also got along great with her co-workers and made many life-long friends who she enjoyed socializing with.
In her spare time, Betty loved to play golf, go to Bingo with her friends, and have her brothers and sister over for a cup of tea and cookies. Betty was kind and caring; she loved her family and friends with all her heart and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty was the beloved wife of Donat J. Bourassa, Jr., devoted mother of Stephen Bourassa and Cheryl Mills & her husband Steven all of Wilmington, Alan Bourassa & his wife Alease of Las Vegas, NV and Marianne Richard of Tewksbury. Loving “Nana” of Kerrianne& Michael Bourassa, Kaylan, Brittany & Alan Joseph “AJ” Bourassa, Rachel & Jennifer Mills, Matthew & Mitchell Richard and Great-Grandson Jacob. Cherished daughter of the late Esau and Lily May Smith, dear sister of Ruby Seville and Edward Smith both of Wilmington, the late George and Nathan Smith. Betty is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Tuesday, January 30th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at the Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington on Wednesday, January 31st at 10:00 a.m.
