The Systems Administrator manages, maintains, documents, upgrades, and troubleshoots problems in both the physical and virtual server environment and network infrastructure. Provide Tier 2 and some Tier 3 support to end users in cooperation with the Desktop Support Technician. Supports the development and implementation of short-term and long-term goals of the department.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum five years’ experience administering and supporting a complex IT infrastructure (medium to large office environment). Superior knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, Windows 7/8/10 and Linux distros). Good knowledge and experience with varying database applications (SQL,
Oracle, Apache). Strong familiarity with fiber networking, network configuration, vlans and firewalls (ProCurve, Aruba and SonicWall devices in particular). Solid understanding of internet connectivity methods, systems, protocols and security. Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements
The work is generally of an intellectual nature. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is required to stand and sit for prolonged periods. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reaches with hands and arms, bends, stoops, kneels, and/or crouches. Specific vision abilities required include close and medium distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal sounds, distinguish sound as voice and communicate through human speech. Required to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires the ability to operate a keyboard, computer mouse, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.

Candidates will also undergo a pre-employment physical including a drug screen, extensive background check and CORI screening.

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Base Wages: MS – 9, Annual Salary $61,239 – $71,644
Hours: 35 Hours per week, required to be available to respond to after-hours support of critical systems or for routine system maintenance.
FLSA Status: Exempt

Definition
The Systems Administrator manages, maintains, documents, upgrades, and troubleshoots problems in both the physical and virtual server environment and network infrastructure. Provide Tier 2 and some Tier 3 support to end users in cooperation with the Desktop Support Technician. Supports the development and implementation of short-term and long-term goals of the department.

Essential Functions
Working under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Systems Administrator performs the following functions:
• Provide 2nd and 3rd Tier service support for end users in conjunction with the Desktop Support Technician.
• Provide network, server, domain and security administration.
• Diagnose and repair system application problems with vendor support.
• Monitor and troubleshoot server OS performance and stability issues.
• Monitor and administer telecomm applications and solutions including VOIP.
• Monitor and maintain NAS environment.
• Perform research and analysis of new technologies relating to networking, server infrastructure and software solutions.
• Identify, document and recommend changes to improve systems and networking.
• Support the efficient operation of all municipal technology including workstations, servers, network switches, access points, firewalls, printers and mobile devices.
• Regularly monitor servers and application systems for conditions that may require corrective action and advise management of the recommended resolution.
• Provide recommendations for policies, procedures and standards as it relates to Information Technology.
• Maintain inventory of hardware and software licensing.
• Prepare reports, attends meetings, and performs studies as they relate to information technology.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Self-motivating and independent professional able to manage and prioritize workload with general direction from supervisors.
• Ability to be equally effective working on a team or working independently.
• Ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts with strong judgment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written skills required.
• Exposure to information of varying degrees of sensitivity requiring confidentiality as determined by the IT Director or department head or written policy.
• Ability to clear a Criminal Justice Information Systems background check.

Job Environment
Work is generally performed inside a building and is characteristic of an office environment with even walking surfaces. Noise levels vary and include telephone rings, sirens, intercom calls, radio chatter and other office environment noises. The work includes traveling between buildings during the shift. Some exposure to undesirable or unpleasant environmental characteristics inherent in the operations of a public
building can be expected. Exposure to confidential and sensitive information regarding the recording, transportation and lock-up of individuals or patients may exist.
