WORCESTER, MA — The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Evan Sperlinga, of Wilmington, has earned a spot on the 2017-18 Assumption College Men’s Track and Field team.
Sperlinga, Class of 2020, is competing during the Greyhounds’ winter and spring season, which began in January for the indoor season and will return March 23 at the annual Bridgewater State University Invitational for the outdoor season.
Trent Baltzell enters his first season as head coach after being promoted from assistant coach, in which he helped lead the 2016-17 men’s team to four school records in jumping, throwing, and multi-event competitions.
“I am beyond excited to continue my coaching career at Assumption,” said Baltzell. “We have a tremendous group of student athletes that have helped propel this program to the top of its conference. These student athletes work tirelessly to succeed both in the classroom and on the track to ensure that we reach our team goals.”
Coach Baltzell’s enthusiasm and love for the sport is mirrored in his athletes’ approach to competition and academics. This mentality combined with considerable talent has helped the team start strong and with NE10 honors; Kevin Hack ’20 and Derek Girouard ’21 were recently named the NE10 Field Athlete and Field Rookie of the week, respectively.
