The Wilmington Insider For January 2, 2018

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Tuesday, January 2, 2018:

Happening Today:

Weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 15. Wind chill values as low as -13. West wind 6 to 10 mph.

Notice From Town Hall: The Department of Public Works will be collecting Christmas trees curbside beginning January 2, 2018. Residents should remove all decorations and plastic wrapping from their tree and place it curbside on their regular trash pickup day.  It is anticipated that the collection will take approximately 2 weeks.  Please note that the pickup may be delayed by weather and other work demands on the DPW. The Christmas trees collected by the Town will be recycled into mulch.  The mulch will be made available to residents in the spring at the Recycling Center, and will also be used on Town projects.

Municipal Meeting: The Wilmington Board of Health meets at 5:30pm in Town Hall’s Room 9. Read the agenda HERE.

Municipal Meeting: The Wilmington Planning Board meets at 7:30pm in the Town Auditorium. Read the agenda HERE.  The Planning Board will be holding a public hearing on the preliminary subdivision plan for the proposed detox facility at 362 Middlesex Avenue at 7:50pm.

At Shawsheen Tech: The Shawsheen Tech School PAC holds its monthly meeting at 7pm at the school.

In The Community: The Wilmington High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team organized a fundraiser at the Chipotle in Woburn (112 Commerce Way) from 5pm to 9pm. 50% of each sale will be donated to the team’s fundraising group (“Wilmington High School Boys Hockey Face Off Club”). Just bring this flyer or show it on your phone.

In The Community: The Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks holds bingo — open to the public — every Tuesday at 6:45pm. Doors open at 5pm. Pizza, hot dog and pastries are sold. Free coffee.

In The Community: Angels In Motion meets every Tuesday, from 9:30am to 2:30pm, at the Wilmington Knights of Columbus Hall (112 Middlesex Avenue).  The club provides a great opportunity for seniors to meet new friends or reacquaint with old ones. A luncheon is served as noon.  Free. Handicapped accessible.

Live Music: Larry Gilbert performs at Rocco’s Restaurant & Bar (193 Main Street) beginning at 6pm.

At The Library: Cookin’ The Books at noon.  Teen Trivia Tuesday at 6:30pm.  Friends of the Library Executive Board Meeting at 7pm. [Learn more and register HERE.]

At The Senior Center: Computer Class at 9:30am. Aerobics at 10:30am. Wii Bowling at 12:30pm.  [Learn more HERE.]

Go Wildcats!: 7 WHS teams are in action, including the WHS Girls Varsity Basketball team traveling to Melrose High at 6pm and the WHS Boys Varsity Basketball team hosting Melrose High at 6pm. [See the complete schedule HERE.]
