BREAKING: Detox Center Proposal For 362 Middlesex Avenue Officially Submitted To Town

WILMINGTON, MA — During tonight’s Wilmington Finance Committee and Wilmington Planning Board Public Hearing on the Special Town Meeting warrant articles, Selectman Mike McCoy and Planning Board Chair Michael Sorrentino announced that the much-discussed detox center proposal for 362 Middlesex Avenue in North Wilmington HAS been submitted to the town.

The Planning Department received the proposal (via a preliminary subdivision plan) on Monday.

The matter will be in front of the Planning Board for site plan review at its January meeting.  The proposal will eventually need a special permit from the Board of Appeals.

Sorrentino noted that the proposal will be grandfathered (“legally locked in”) under the existing zoning bylaws.

Even if residents were to vote at the Special Town Meeting on December 16 in favor of Article 1 or Article 2 — which aims to disallow detox centers in all zones except certain industrial zones with special permits — this proposal would be compliant with the current zoning bylaws.

Wilmington Apple will have a full write-up on tonight’s public hearing on Friday.

  1. If will allow this to come into our town we should start opening pot shops everywhere. We can just go for the money because the town property value will go to h———! Then we can say it was the right thing to do, but no ones property’s worth anything. First Savers now this. Wow crazy!
