In The News:
Wildcats & Rams Both Lose: On Friday night, the WHS Football Team was defeated by Marblehead, 24-17, while the Shawsheen Teech Football Team lost to Stoneham, 44-39. Both teams were eliminated from playoff contention.
Have You Seen Charlie?: A Wilmington dog is missing, last seen in the Burlington Avenue/Chestnut Street area.

Happening Today:
Weather: Increasing clouds, with a high near 53. Light and variable wind.
Traffic Advisory: Butters Row Bridge will be closed through November 10. The MassDOT are repairing damaged bridge timber deck planks and timber stringers. Work will take place daily from 7am to 7pm. Detour routes are posted HERE.
Yardwaste: The Town’s Recycling Center (Old Main Street) is open from 9am to 4pm for leaf and brush drop-off. [Read more HERE.]
In The Community: Meet sports celebrities at the Greater Boston Sports Collectors Club’s 32nd Annual Sports Card & Memorabilia Show, held on Saturday, November 4 (9am to 5pm), and Sunday, November 5 (9am to 3pm) at the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road). General admission tickets cost $8. Senior citizens and children under 8 are FREE. Tickets must be purchased at the door. Tickets to autograph lines, however, can be purchased in advance on the event’s website HERE. Please carefully read the varying appearance times, pricing (it’s not cheap!), and restrictions for each sports celebrity. Appearances are subject to change.
In The Community: Residents are invited to the Shawsheen/West PAC Winter Wonderland Festival from 9am to 3pm at the Shawsheen Elementary School (298 Shawsheen Avenue). The reimagined winter fair fundraiser will feature numerous handmade craft vendors, raffles, hands-on holiday craft activities for the kids, live music and demonstrations by local school groups and studios, food and bake sales, and even a visit from Santa! In The Community: Join Wilmington Boy Scout Troop #136 and iPods for Wounded Veterans for an afternoon of community, celebration and support of our veterans and active duty wounded soldiers. Stop by the Friendship Lodge (32 Church Street) between 11:30am and 3pm to write letters s of encouragement and cards with holiday greetings. This is a time to celebrate and say thank you to our veterans that have sacrificed so much. All card and letter writing materials will be supplied. Refreshments and “light bites” provided.
In The Community: Wilmington Youth Hockey is holding a Try Hockey for Free Day will at 7am at the Ristuccia Arena (190 Main Street). This free trial has been created specifically for children ages 4-9 years old who are interested in trying hockey for the first time. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment. If you do not have equipment, you must at a minimum bring: Helmet, a pair of gloves (they don’t need to be hockey gloves – mittens are fine), a parent (to complete the registration form), Skates with the ability to skate, and a Smile. Limited rental equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis. This includes: helmet, pants, gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads and shin pads. Register online HERE.
In The Community: The Tewksbury Public Library is putting the spotlight on local authors with its first annual Tewksbury Book Festival from 10am to 1pm. This Fall Author Fair will feature a diverse collection of Tewksbury and Wilmington writers. Stop by the library’s Meeting Room anytime during this three-hour event to meet local authors, learn about their books, enjoy complimentary donuts (10am-11:30am), pizza (11:30am-1pm) and drinks, and enter to win free raffles. Admission is FREE and open to all. Participating Wilmington authors include:
- Steve Bjork (Wilmington), former editor of the Wilmington/Tewksbury Town Crier and author of Almost Domesticated: A Comedian’s Collection of Short Stories and Essays.
- Dave Riese (Wilmington), author of short-story collection The Blue Dress and the award-winning historical romance Echo from Mount Royal
- Mark Ryan (Wilmington), author of the short story collection Adventures of the Romeo Gang and the short story Escape North
While there’s no obligation to purchase, each author will be selling and signing copies of their work. This is a great opportunity to get some holiday shopping done for the book lovers in your life while supporting the local writing scene.
In The Community: The Tewksbury/Wilmington Emblem Club is holding its annual Fall Shopping Fair from 10am to 2pm, at the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Lodge (777 South Street). Crafters and independent consultants will be displaying their goods, from jewelry to clothes to home decor. The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and raffle table. All proceeds from the event will assist the club in its charitable contributions in the community as well as scholarships for local high school students.
In The Community: Align Credit Union is celebrating the opening of their new Wilmington branch located at 211G Lowell Street, next to Lucci’s Supermarket, with a Shred Day. The free event will be held from 9am to noon and is open to the public. Each person is invited to bring one standard Banker’s Box of documents to the Wilmington branch during event hours. Documents will be placed in locked bins and transported to OPRSystems state-of-the-art processing facility in Wilmington for shredding in their secured shred area.
In The Community: The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less! Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.
