SELECTMEN NOTEBOOK: Town Common Lights Are Green This November To Honor Veterans

WILMINGTON, MA — The lights on the Wilmington Town Common will once again be turning green in November to honor veterans.

Wilmington Veterans Services Director Lou Cimaglia requested that the Town Common lights be illuminated green this month “to show our continued support of veterans from all eras that live in Wilmington.

Selectmen unanimously approved his request at their October 23rd board meeting.

As part of the same request last year, Cimaglia wrote the following to the board:

I believe America’s veterans are some of the country’s bravest and hardest working men and women.  However, it’s hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when they’re home and out of uniform.  They’re more camouflaged than ever.

Green Light A Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green.  Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being.  Green light is also a term commonly used to indicate forward movement.  The simple act of changing one light to green is meant to spark a national conversation reagrding the regonition of veterans and “green light” them forward as valued members of our communities.

The necessary lenses to change the Town Common lights green were donated by resident Fred Hogan, the Wilmington Sons of Italy and others.
