WILMINGTON, MA — Veterans Day is a time to thank our veterans for their sacrifice and service to this country, but many of our veterans remain homeless and living in shelters.
Tragic statistics from the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans state that about one third of the adult homeless population in the US is veterans. About 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and over the course of a year approximately twice that experience homelessness. About 1.5 million other veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to lack of support networks and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.
As a way to show our appreciation to veterans past and present this Veterans Day, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Boston is hosting its Movers for Military collection drive to provide essential items to homeless veterans and their families living in crisis this fall.
This year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, schools, and businesses from areas surrounding Wilmington are taking part in collecting donations for New England Center and Home for Veterans. These locations will serve as drop off points for items and the public can drop off donations until early November.
- Woburn Street School
- The Crafting Closet
- Wilmington Chamber of Commerce
- InLine Mechanical
- Two Men and a Truck
Necessary items for donation include:
- Bathroom Towels
- Toilet Paper
- Paper Towels
- Twin Sheets
- Body Wash
This fall marks the sixth anniversary of the Movers for Military program. In 2016, franchises across the country collected nearly 20,000 donations for veterans in need. This year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is seeking to further expand the program nationwide.
