WILMINGTON, MA — The Town of Wilmington has updated its special event policy for the upcoming fiscal year. Organizations that sponsor events such as road races or walks, which may affect traffic and street closures, are now required to submit a “Special Event Application” by November 1, 2017. This policy helps Town departments, including Police, Fire, and Public Works, to adequately budget, plan, and schedule staff to ensure the safety of event participants and spectators.
Because this is the first year the policy will be implemented, the applications for fiscal year 2019 (the time period of July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020) will be due November 1, 2017. The deadline for future events in fiscal year 2020 and beyond will be October 1st. By providing the schedule for such events in advance of the budget, it enables Town departments to factor associated costs so that funds can be budgeted accordingly.
Road races and walks are an important part of the Town’s culture. They provide an opportunity for members of the community to come together and raise money for local charities and scholarships, and raise awareness for specific causes. The Town appreciates the work of these organizations and their contributions to the community.
Special Event Application forms are available through the Town Manager’s Office, and online at www.wilmingtonma.gov. For more information on special event policies, contact the Town Manager’s Office at 978-658-3311 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
