In The News:

  • Who’s Backing This Detox Center Proposal?: The Wilmington Patch reported on Wednesday on the six individuals, according to filings with the Secretary of State, who are directors of the business (“Massachusetts Detox Centers Inc.”) looking to open a detox center in North Wilmington.   • Petition Circulating: After a show of force at the recent Board of Selectmen Meeting, detractors of the project have begun an online petition that will be delivered to the town’s Planning Board. More than 375 residents have already signed. Want to read it? Sign it? View it HERE.
  • Online Giving To Support Wilmington Middle School: The Wilmington Middle School PAC has raised more than $5,000 through its direct donation fundraiser over the past month.  The group hopes to bring in $20,000 through this simple, hassle-free fundraiser.  If you have a child at the school — or just feel in a generous mood — consider making a donation online HERE.

  • Weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. West wind 5 to 8 mph.
  • Flags At Half Staff:  Flags are at half-staff until sunset on Friday, October 6 in memory of the victims of the Las Vegas attack.
  • At Town Hall: The Wilmington Recreation Commission meets at 5pm in Wilmington Town Hall’s Room 9. Read the agenda HERE.
  • In The Community: The Wilmington Substance Abuse Coalition is holding a Candlelight Vigil at 6pm at the Wilmington Town Common. The vigil gives residents of Wilmington and surrounding communities an opportunity to remember those they have lost to the disease of addiction and to come together to reduce the stigma associated with addiction.   • In The Community (Pt. 2): RMLD is holding a Family-Friendly Open House from 3pm to 6pm at its headquarters (218 Ash Street, Reading). This fun and educational event will feature bucket truck rides, face painting, kid’s games and prizes, pumpkin decorating, a lineman dress-up activity for the kids, lineman demos, and an electric vehicle showcase.   • In The Community (Pt. 3): Wilmington’s Hope & Friendship Metastatic Breast Cancer Foundation is holding a fundraiser at Jake n Joes Bar & Grille (230 Mishawum Road) in Woburn from 11:30am to close (12:30am Friday). 20% of your bill will be donated to the Wilmington cancer foundation. Bring this flyer.
  • In The Community (Pt. 4): Abundant Life is holding a Fundraiser at Wilmington’s Panera Bread (228 Main Street, Wilmington Plaza) from 11am to 8pm. A percentage of your bill will benefit the 8th Grade Washington D.C. Field Trip. Bring this flyer or show it on your phone.

  • Live Music: Larry Gilbert performs at Rocco’s Restaurant & Bar (193 Main Street) beginning at 6pm. Pianist Ricky Lauria performs at Tremezzo (2 Lowell Street) beginning at 8pm.

  • On WCTV: On Wednesday, WCTV uploaded the Community Compact Signing Ceremony held at Town Hall last Friday with Lt. Governor Karyn Polito and town officials.  The video includes 1-on-1 interviews with Polito and Assistant Town Manager Dee Casey, who was instrumental in the process. Watch the video HERE.
  • In The Schools: The Northside PAC meets at 9am at the North.
