WILMINGTON, MA — Joanne Mary Burke (Bennett), 78, originally from Wilmington, MA and Palm Coast, FL, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2017, in Nashua, NH.
Joanne was born in Lowell, MA on October 20, 1938; she was the daughter of Joseph and Eleanor Bennett. Joanne was raised and educated in Tewksbury, MA and was a graduate of Tewksbury High School with the Class of 1956.
Joanne married Paul J. Burke, Sr., in June 1957; the couple moved to Wilmington in 1963 where they raised their family. Joanne and Paul were married for over fifty years until his passing in March of 2008.
Joanne was employed by the Town of Wilmington School Department and the Tax Assessors Office from 1968-1996. She also ran a Travel Agency from home for many years.
After Joanne and Paul retired, they moved to Port St. John, Florida in 1998 and then to Palm Coast, FL in 2003 where they made many friends.
In her spare time, Joanne enjoyed bowling and travelling with Paul; the couple enjoyed their many trips to Aruba and Hawaii and they loved taking cruises. She also was a avid reader and exchanged many books with her friends in Palm Coast.
Joanne was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Burke Sr., devoted mother of Kathleen Fulmer and her husband Evan of Merrimack, NH, Paul Burke, Jr. and his wife Debra of Palm Coast, FL and Kevin Burke and his wife Sandra of Wilmington, MA, loving “Nana” of Jessalynne Antilus, Kendra Burke, Kevin Burke Jr., and Desiree Maloney. Great-Grandmother of Malik, Jayde, and Soraya. Dear daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Richards) Bennett, sister of Thomas Bennett of Dover, NH. Joanne is also survived by her life-long friend Kate Brothers and her husband Arthur (Bud) of Tewksbury, MA.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, October 4th at 9:00 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Tewksbury Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 3rd from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family would be honored by gifts to the Flagler Humane Society, 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32137.
