OBITUARY: Ralph V. LaCambria, 87

WILMINGTON, MA — Ralph Vincent LaCambria, age 87, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 22, 2017.

Ralph was born in Boston, MA, on July 28, 1930; the son of the late Nufrio Acampora and Ausilia (Naclerio) LaCambria. As a child, Ralph, attended Boston area schools and graduated from South Boston High School in 1948. Following High School, Ralph, proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Ralph served during the Korean War; he was stationed in Oceanside, CA and also in Hawaii. Ralph served in the Marine Corps for 8 years; reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on February 12, 1960 and returned home to his family.

After serving his Country, Ralph, began his 39 year career as a Civil Engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Ralph was known for his very hard work ethic, integrity, and honesty.

He always had a generous smile and a kind word for everyone he knew or met. Ralph was well known around town with many who lived and worked in Wilmington.

Ralph has been a resident of Wilmington since the early 1960’s and was an active Parishioner of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington for many years.

Ralph enjoyed traveling, and was a die hard New England Sports Fans and never missed watching a game. He loved spending time with his family. Ralph looked forward to family events and most importantly spending time with his four grandchildren; Ashley, Brendan, Katelyn, and Sarah.

Ralph was the beloved husband of the late Dolores A. (Browne) LaCambria, devoted father of Stephen P. LaCambria, John M. LaCambria & wife Sue all of Wilmington and Amy L. Michaud & husband Kevin of Tewksbury. Step-father of Daniel J. Walls & wife Elizabeth of Salem, NH, Eugene A. Walls of Boston, and the late William K. Walls. Loving “Papa” of Ashley E. and Katelyn A. LaCambria, Brendan M. and Sarah E. Michaud. Cherished son of the late Nufrio Acampora and Ausilia (Naclerio) LaCambria, dear brother of the late Celia Iarrobino, Millie Taylor, Luco Anthony, and John LaCambria. Ralph is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, September 30th for Visitation from 10:00-1145 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 12:00 noon. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Ralph’s memory to Local Heroes, P. O. Box 536, Wilmington, MA 01887.
