OBITUARY: Donald V. Rhodes, 80

WILMINGTON, MA — Donald V. Rhodes, age 80, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 4, 2017.

Donald was born on December 27, 1936 in Deepwater, West Virginia; he was the dear son of the late Vincent T. and Virginia (Dare) Rhodes. Donald was raised and educated in West Virginia and served in the U. S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War.

Donald married his “sweetheart” Betty Bragg in 1962; they moved to Lynn, MA where they lived for 12 years before moving to Wilmington over 40 years ago.

Donald worked hard to provide for his family; for more than 45 years he was employed by American Airlines.

Donald was known to be an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life; he enjoyed hunting with his family in West Virginia and Massachusetts. Donald kept several trophy animals that were displayed throughout his home.

Donald will be fondly remembered as a simple guy who loved his family with all his heart and he will be forever missed.

Donald was the beloved husband of the late Betty (Bragg) Rhodes, devoted father of Priscilla Nicolo, loving “Pop” of Ricky Williams and his wife Stephanie, Brianna Nicolo, and great-granddaughters Angelina and Abigail Williams all of Wilmington. Donald was pre-deceased by his nine siblings and he is survived by many nieces and nephews.

At Donald’s request, all services will be private.
