10 Things You Need To Know In Wilmington Today (September 9, 2017)

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, September 9, 2017.

#1) According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington will see scattered showers, mainly after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 69. North wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

#2) The Town’s Yardwaste Center, located on Old Main Street, off of Main Street at the Woburn line, will be open from 9am to 4pm. Residents will need to purchase a punch-card for $15 in order to enter the yardwaste center. Punch-cards will be available for purchase through the Collector’s Office at Town Hall and will allow up to 5 vehicle trips to the Yardwaste Center per card. NO GRASS CLIPPINGS OR STUMPS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Commercial vehicles will not be allowed. Make sure to bring photo identification to show you are a Wilmington resident.

#3a) Wilmington has FOUR yard sales scheduled today, including one at the Wilmington United Methodist Church.  Learn more HERE.

#3b) The Wilmington Sons of Italy and the Wilmington High School Band Parents are holding a Flea Market from 8am to 3pm in the old Swain School Lot, across from the Wilmington Town Common. There will be everything from old coins to household items, clothes, furniture, collectibles and much more — come and find your treasure!  More than 25 vendors will be on hand. Both organizations encourage all their friends and neighbors in Wilmington and nearby towns to stop by and bring the family. In addition to the flea market, there will be a BBQ and music. All the proceeds raised will go to help the two organizations with the many programs that they support throughout the year, including scholarships for Wilmington High School students.

#4) Several Wilmington High teams are in action today:

  • 10:00 am (A) Boys JV Football (Shawsheen Technical) @ Shawsheen Technical
  • 1:00 pm (A) Girls JV Field Hockey vs Tewksbury Memorial High School @ Tewksbury High School
  • 2:30 pm (A) Girls Varsity Field Hockey vs Tewksbury Memorial High School @ Tewksbury High School
  • 4:00 pm (H) Girls JV Soccer vs Belmont High School @ Wilmington High School
  • 6:00 pm (H) Girls Varsity Soccer vs Belmont High School @ Wilmington High School

#5) Wilmington Youth Hockey is holding a “Welcome Back To Hockey Day” from 3pm to 7pm at the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks (777 South Street). This rain-or-shine, family-friendly event will include Horseshoes, Cornhole, KanJam, and more. The Kona Ice Truck will be present from 5:15pm to 7pm. Light refreshments will be served. Cash bar. Bring your own snacks. (Beverages must be purchased at the Elks.) Wildcat merchandise will be on sale.

#6) The UPS Store (668 Main Street) is holding a Grand Opening Ceremony from 11am to 2pm. Coffee, donuts and pizza will be served. Donations will be collected for the Wilmington Food Pantry.

#7) The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) is hosting its Fiction Critique Group Meeting from 9:15am to 11:30am.


#8) The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.

#9) The Wilmington Food Pantry (142 Chestnut Street) is open from 10am to noon for food donation drop-offs. Learn which food items the Pantry is most in need of HERE.

#10) REMINDER: There is NO commuter rail service on the Lowell Line during the weekend, from August 5 to October 1. Instead, MBTA will be providing shuttle buses. Learn more HERE.
