WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, August 5, 2017.
#1) According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely in Wilmington, mainly between 3pm and 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Areas of fog between 11am and noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
#2) The Town’s Yardwaste Center, located on Old Main Street, off of Main Street at the Woburn line, is open from 9am to 4pm TODAY. Residents will need to purchase a punch-card for $15 in order to enter the yardwaste center. Punch-cards will be available for purchase through the Collector’s Office at Town Hall and will allow up to 5 vehicle trips to the Yardwaste Center per card. NO GRASS CLIPPINGS OR STUMPS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Commercial vehicles will not be allowed. Make sure to bring photo identification to show you are a Wilmington resident. #3) Boston Roller Derby, a Boston-based, female-only roller derby league, returns to the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) for a championships double-header. Doors open at 4pm. The action begins at 5pm with the Nutcrackers vs. the Cosmonaughties, followed by the Harbor Horrors vs. the Wicked Pissahs. Tickets include admission to both games, plus entry into the Players’ After Party and MVP Awards Presentation in the Fez Room at 9pm. Tickets are $12 (advance) and $16 (at the door) for adults; $6 (advance) and $8 (at the door) for kids (6-17); and kids under 6 are free. There is a small fee for online purchases. #4) 99 Restaurant (144 Lowell Street) is holding a “Jimmy Fund Fun Fair” from 11am to 5pm. The event features games, face painting and bake sale. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy Fund.
#5) During all masses on Saturday, August 5, 2017 and Sunday, August 6, 2017, the St. Thomas/St. Dorothy’s Charities Committee will be holding a Food Drive for the parish’s Food Pantry to help Parish members in need. Donations may be left at the entrances of both churches.
The food drive is particularly focusing on back-to-school non-perishable lunch box food items. Items most needed include:

- Fruit Juice Boxes
- Chocolate Milk Boxes
- Peanut Butter Crackers
- Cheese Crackers
- Snack Size Chips
- Snack Size Raisins
- Snack Size Cookies
#6) The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less! Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.

#8) The Town Beach is open today. Lifeguards are on duty from 10am to 8pm. Admission is FREE for residents. Proof of residency is required. Learn more HERE.
#9) REMINDER: There is NO commuter rail service on the Lowell Line during the weekend, from August 5 to October 1. Instead, MBTA will be providing shuttle buses. Learn more HERE.
