10 Things You Need To Know In Wilmington Today (August 2, 2017)

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

#1) According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington will see a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Light southwest wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

#2) Why are flags at half-staff in Wilmington? Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has the flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset in honor of Navy Yeoman 3rd Class Edmund T. Ryan, a Massachusetts native combat veteran who served on the USS Oklahoma and was killed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

#3) The new Wilmington High School Girls Varsity Basketball Coach will be announced to the team and public at 10am in the WHS Large Instruction Room.

#4) The 2017 “Sounds of Summer” Concert series wraps up on the Wilmington Town Common from 6:30pm to 8pm, with a return performance from Jimmy & The Jesters. “Mr. Rock & Roll” Jimmy Merrick & The Jesters will perform the oldies and classic country tunes the way you remember them. Bring dinner, chairs or a blanket, and relax on the Town Common to the sweet sounds of summer.

#5) The Wilmington Conservation Commission meets at 7pm at Wilmington Town Hall (Room 9). Read the agenda HEREThe gas station proposal on Lowell Street and West Street is on the agenda.

#6) The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) is holding FOUR programs today:

  • Tech Help Drop-In (2pm-3pm)
  • Penguins & Popsicles (3pm-4pm)
  • Animal World Experience (6:30pm-7:30pm)
  • The Smartphone Simplified (7pm-8:30pm)

#7) The Wilmington Senior Center (15 School Street) is holding its normal Wednesday activities:

  • SBF Exercise (9:45am)
  • Special Exercise (11am)
  • Country Line Dancing (1pm)

#8) The Wilmington Police Department offers safety seat installs at the Wilmington Public Safety Building (1 Adelaide Street) every Wednesday, 10am-2pm. No appointment is necessary, but calling ahead at 978-658-5071 is recommended. Learn more HERE.

#10) The Town Beach is open today.  Lifeguards are on duty from 10am to 8pm. Admission is FREE for residents. Proof of residency is required. Learn more HERE.
