WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Recreation Department has been really buzzing these past couple weeks preparing for our summer programming. A LOT of great stuff is right around the corner!
#1) The popular tennis clinics accommodate most schedules. For $60, kids will learn basic tennis skills and play mini-matches to improve their games!
- Evening Tennis Lessons are offered on Monday nights from July 10 – August 7 (5 weeks) at the WHS Tennis Courts:
Entering grades 4 – 6 are from 5 – 6 p.m.
Entering grades 7 – 12 are from 6 – 7 p.m.
- Morning Tennis Clinics are returning for the week of July 17 – 21 (every day, Monday through Friday) at the Boutwell Tennis Courts
Ages 4 – 5 are from 9 -10 a.m.
Ages 6 – 8 are from 10 – 11 a.m.
Ages 9 – 12 are from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
#2) ‘Top Secret Science and Math’ is returning for a FULL DAY program, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday, July 31 – August 4 at the West Intermediate School. Kids entering grades 1 – 5 will have a blast (literally!) while they learn! This program follows state guidelines for required curriculum and is under the instruction of a professional science teacher. The kids will complete many experiments and explore topics such as chemical reactions, learning about light and sound, as well as many other topics. For only $170, this is a great value for a full day program.
#3) ‘Legopalooza’ is a NEW engineering and design program being offered this summer at the High School! This full day program runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday, July 24 – 28 and costs $270. For kids entering grades 2 – 6, this program includes advanced, open-ended STEM activities and engaging new LEGO Robotics challenges. The ‘We-Do Robotics’ system allows LEGO models that incorporate working motors and sensors combined with simple programming software. Build and program a spinning carousel, a roller coaster, Ferris wheel and other fun carnival rides. Each child will receive his own LEGO Klutz Crazy Action Contraptions Kit to take home!
#4) ‘Learn to Sail’ is another very popular program that is returning again for 2017. This program is scheduled to run Monday – Friday, August 7 – 11 from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. For kids age 10 – 18, we will provide transportation and chaperones to and from the Community Boating location on the Charles River in Boston. Each day consists of classroom lecture and, of course, sailing! We’ll teach new students everything you need to know to get started, but you need to pass a swim test prior to the start of the program.
#5) Calling all young athletes! The popular Thundercats Sports Clinics are returning Monday – Friday, July 31 – August 4! This is the ultimate multi-sport program where kids will run around and play games all day!
- Kiddie Cat Jam for kids age 3 & 4 is $67 and runs from 8:30 – 9:20 a.m.
- Kiddie Cat Jam for kids age 4 – 6 is $135 and runs from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Thundercat Sports Jam is for bigger kids (age 7 – 10) and has Half-day or Full-day options:
- Half Day costs $135 and runs from 8:45 – 11:45 a.m.
- Full Day costs $165 and runs from 8:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
