10 Things You Need To Know In Wilmington Today (July 1, 2017)

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, July 1, 2017.

#1) According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington will see isolated showers. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 88. South wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

#2) The Wilmington Fun on the Fourth celebration continues today. The schedule is below:

Breakfast

7:00 AM – 10:00 AM Knights of Columbus, $5 (at K of C Hall, 126 Middlesex Avenue) (Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes, Waffles, Hash Browns, Juice, Coffee)

Family Fun Day Activities

  • 8:30 AM– 12:30 AM Travel’n DJ Sounds
  • 8:30 AM Assemble for Doll Carriage and Bike Parade (on Town Common)
  • 9:15 AM Opening Ceremonies
  • 9:30 AM Raffle Ticket Drawing-Bikes (need to be present to win) Bikes donated by Friends of Jeff Stone Trucking 
  • 9:40 AM Wiffle Ball (Family Bracket)
  • 9:45 AM Hula Hoop Contest
  • 10:15 AM Dana Perkins and Friends (Family Entertainer)
  • 10:15 AM Baby Crawl (12 months and under)
  • 10:45 AM Tug of War
  • 11:15 AM 3-legged Race
  • 11:45 AM Water Balloon Toss
  • 12:15 PM Bucket Brigade
  • 4:00 PM 1st Annual Fire Dept. vs. Police Dept. Softball Game (Wildwood St., H.S. Campus)

Entertainment

12:00 PM – 10:00 PM Carnival (Family Day $10.00 Ride Special with wristband from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM )

Dinner

4:30 PM – 7:00 PM Kiwanis, $8 (Ham & Beans, Cornbread, Drink)

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Performance by the Haverty Brothers Band (Sponsored by The Savings Bank)

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Cornhole Tournament, 2 Per Team (Junior League, 14 & Under; Adult League 15 & Over). (Participants must sign a consent form. Under 18 signed by parent.)

#3) Members of the Wilmington Police Department and Wilmington Fire Department will battle for public safety supremacy in a Charity Softball Game at 4pm at the Wilmington High School Softball Field.

Residents are strongly encouraged to attend.  Aside from the action on the field, the event will feature a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, concessions, drinks, and commemorative t-shirts for sale.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The 100 Club of Massachusetts, which financially rescues the dependents of firefighters and law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

The event is sponsored by the Boston Bruins Foundation and Boston Bruins BFit, a new community fitness initiative. Developed by former Bruins strength and conditioning coach and Wilmington resident John Whitesides, BFit strives to promote healthier living through approachable fitness and dietary eduction.

#4) Wilmington teen Katrina Rachdorf has organized a dog wash from 9am to noon at the Wilmington United Methodist Church (87 Church Street). Bring your furry friend to have a bath and great a treat.  Proceeds will benefit the church’s high school mission trip.

#6) The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.

#7) The Wilmington Food Pantry (142 Chestnut Street) is open from 10am to noon for food donation drop-offs. Learn which food items the Pantry is most in need of HERE.

#8) The Town Beach is open today.  Lifeguards are on duty from 10am to 8pm. Admission is FREE for residents. Proof of residency is required. Learn more HERE.

#9) The Fourth of July Committee Building (142 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 7am to 10pm.  Fun on the Fourth merchandise and meal tickets are on sale.  Registration for some of the celebration’s free events is available.
