WILMINGTON, MA — The Astros/Braves/Giants team edged the Pirates/Cardinals/Royals team in the Double-A AllStar game to cap a great Little League season.
For the Astros/Braves/Giants team, Erin McCarthy began the game by striking out the side in the first and Shane McDonald did the same to end the game in the sixth. In between, Ryan Gray, Nolan Richards, and Mikey Taylor each struck out two and Noah Titterington fanned one. The offense got on track in the third as Jackson Guy, Richards, and McDonald all scored. Gray provided a big double to score two of them. Three more runs came across in the fifth as Guy, McDonald, and McCarthy crossed the plate. Gray knocked in one while Chase Kennedy’s big single plated the other two. Connor Sullivan, and Titterington added hits as well. The team flashed some great defense as there were some great plays, hustle, and alert positioning. James Passerini, Matt Driscoll, Joey Fennelly, Richards, Guy, McDonald, McCarthy, Gray, Kennedy, and Sullivan were among those who contributed.
The Pirates/Cardinals/Royals team got contributions from their entire roster as well. Jake Banda, Jake Carr, J.R. Haggerty, Thano Mesmaris, and Nathan Caples were all solid on the mound, each striking out their share of batters. Carr had two singles while Luke Kitanov, Haggerty, and Derek Perault added hits as well. Luke Cushing, Ronnie Jordan, Jake Banda and Eric Banda also found ways to get on base. The team made a number of great plays and were alert and active all over the field. Dante McCollem made a nice play in the infield while David Dynan and Logan Zimmer were two of the many others who contributed to the great defense.
