WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, June 24, 2017.
#1) According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington will see showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between noon and 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Areas of fog before 7am. High near 88. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
#2) The Wilmington Minutemen will be holding its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at 2pm at Minutemen Headquarters, behind the Harnden Tavern (430 Salem Street). The simple ceremony, which lasts approximately 15 minutes, will consist of the Minutemen properly disposing of American flags it has collected over the past year. Residents can bring tattered flags to the event, or they can drop off the flags, year-round, in the marked boxes at the Wilmington Town Hall and the Wilmington Post Office.
#3) Come see an amazing cabaret at 7:30pm at the Wilmington United Methodist Church (87 Church Street). The show is entirely student run/directed. All proceeds benefit organization called “To Show We Care,” which raises money to bring patients undergoing cancer treatment so plays and musicals. The cabaret features middle and high school students from both Wilmington and Tewksbury performing songs from Dear Evan Hansen, West Side Story, Avenue Q, Kiss Me Kate, and more of your favorites! Tickets cost $8 and can be purchased at the door.
#4) Boston Roller Derby, a Boston-based, female-only roller derby league, returns to the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) for a playoffs double-header TONIGHT. Doors open at 4pm. The action begins at 5pm with the Wicked Pissahs vs. the Cosmonaughties, followed by the Harbor Horrors vs. the Nutcrackers. Tickets include admission to both games, plus entry into the Players’ After Party and MVP Awards Presentation in the Fez Room at 9pm. Tickets are $12 (advance) and $16 (at the door) for adults; $6 (advance) and $8 (at the door) for kids (6-17); and kids under 6 are free. There is a small fee for online purchases. #6) 8 Wilmington Dance Academy students will be performing in North Atlantic Dance Theatre’s Spring 2017 Gala at 7pm at Larcom Theater (13 Wallis Street) in Beverly. The Academy students include Kate Busby, Sarah Busby, Catherine Connolly, Lucy Johnson, Abby Keating, Vivian Moda, Juliana Peacock and Rebecca Vanderpot. Learn more HERE.
