WILMINGTON REC REMINDERS: Several Opportunities For Summer Travel

WILMINGTON, MA — Summertime is a great time to travel and explore! Take a day (and maybe a night) off and relax!

The Wilmington Recreation Department tries to make travelling easy whether you are a senior citizen, a family with kids or just a someone who wants to get out and try something new. For each of our trips, travelers are provided roundtrip transportation to the destination as well as some trip-specific items.

Here’s a sample of some upcoming trips. You do not need to be a Wilmington resident to take advantage of these offerings, so please consider sharing this with your friends and family. Be sure to check the ‘Recreation Matters’ newsletter for a full list of offerings!

  • ‘Sail Away on a Summer Day’ is a day trip to historic Mystic, CT. Included in this trip will be a 2 ½ hour sightseeing cruise down the Mystic River to Fishes’ Island Sound. You’ll see scenic coastlines, islands and lighthouses. After the cruise, we will travel to downtown Mystic where you can have lunch on your own and stroll around the shops. Be sure to stop by the Sift Bake Shop for a free treat! This trip will take place on Thursday, August 10 and it only costs $90 per person.
  • If going to the theater is your thing, there are a limited number of tickets to see ‘Finding Neverland’ on Thursday, August 17 at the Opera House in Boston. This is the story of author J. M. Barrie and the family that inspired his greatest work – Peter Pan! Interweaving Barrie’s real life story with flights of fancy that take you deep into the world of Captain Hook and the Lost Boys, this musical is an inspiring ode to the creative spirit and speaks to the child in all of us! Tickets are $109 per person.
  • If you’re looking to get away for a night, check out the ‘Off to the Races!’ trip. The trip begins with an overnight stay at the beautiful Summit Lodge in Killington, VT. When you arrive, enjoy lunch and a Vermont Maple Cooking demonstrations followed by free time to enjoy all the amenities the resort has to offer. Dinner and entertainment will cap off your night. In the morning, after breakfast, we will take a scenic drive to Saratoga Springs, NY for a tour and free time before we head to our reserved Grandstand Seats at the Saratoga Race Course. This trip will take place August 20 – 21, and the price is only $255 p.p.d.o.
  • On Saturday, September 9, squeeze one more weekend out of summer by taking a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. For $48 adults ($38 children), you’ll be driven to Falmouth and provided with a round-trip ride on the ferry to the Vineyard. While there, take a tour or explore the island at your leisure!
