OBITUARY: Michael R. Duffy, 46

PORTLAND, ME — Michael R. Duffy, age 46, of Portland ME, formerly from Wilmington, died unexpectedly on July 12, 2014, surrounded by his loved ones.

Michael was a wonderful son, loyal brother and devoted father; and an awesome uncle! In passing he joins his parents Charles Duffy Jr. and Dorothea (Froton) Duffy; his older brother Charles Duffy III; and maternal grandparents Burton and Mary (Walsh) Froton and Paternal grandparents, Charles and Mary (Edwards) Duffy.

Michael is survived by his daughter Catherine Duffy (Portland); his brothers and sisters, James Duffy & wife Barbara (Tewksbury), Karen Duffy (UT), Kevin Duffy (Boston), David Duffy & wife Lynel (Indianapolis), and Mary Duffy & wife Anne Crawshaw (Anthony, FL). He is also survived by his loving godparents, Mary Elaine (Froton) Kelly (Portland) and Richard Froton (Wilmington); several nieces and nephews including: Mark Webster, Lynne Webster, Lianne (Duffy) O’Dea, Dave Duffy, James Duffy, Danielle (Duffy) Thompson, Danny Wandell, John Duffy, Dylan Duffy, plus many cousins and a whole host of friends.

A true Bostonian and a prevailing force. He had the best sense-of-humor. In 1990, he married the love of his life, Susan Fowler, and in 1991 they had their only child, Catherine Duffy. Michael and Sue shared a passion for helping others, and soon after Catherine was born, they took a job in Aroostook County, Maine to run a group home for troubled youth. For several years they worked together in Aroostook raising Catherine and running the home. Michael loved life, people, food, and animals! But his real passion was for cooking and he shared it with everyone, he catered parties and weddings and created special memories; until it was time for a change. Catherine went on to college, and Michael refocused his professional work and volunteer efforts to the awareness and treatment of HIV/AIDS. He served on many committees throughout Maine working. One of his favorite new adventures was to march in the Portland Pride Parade, now his daughter marches every year in his memory.

Michael was truly a one of a kind soul and is missed daily. Now he can rest in peace with his family, a family he loved so dearly.
