AA: Braves vs. Astros — Sunday, June 11, 2017

As a grand finale to the Double-A season, the Pirates and Astros clashed for their long-awaited showdown. For the Pirates, Will Poyant and Davide Vitale, already legends of the hardwood, brought their talents to the diamond and led their team to the season’s finish line. Poyant had a great game in the field while Vitale was a standout on the mound. The Pirates got key hits from David Dynan, J.R. Haggerty, and Derek Perault. Chris Smith was another contributor to the team’s strong pitching and Ryan Flynn and Adrian Babu had terrific games behind the plate. The Astros started out with a bang as Erin McCarthy led off with another home run. Connor Sullivan had another multi-hit game while Kyle Bridge, Kevin Pruslin, John Roofe, and Justin Fricia also contributed singles. Joey Fennelly had another great game from the catching position. Quinn Stockman, McCarthy, and Sullivan each struck out two every inning they pitched while Pruslin and Roofe struck out one each and both made nice defensive plays from the mound. Evan Cummings continued his outstanding fielding with several great plays and Chris DeFilippo, Fricia, McCarthy, Stockman, and Bridge were some others who also contributed to the defense.
