WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a recent Wilmington Little League game summary:
AA: Giants vs. Astros — Thursday, June 8, 2017
On Thursday, the Astros and Giants played their penultimate games of the Wilmington Little League season. The Giants were at their best in all aspects of the game. Cam Saija and Jackson Guy led the offense with four hits a piece while Chase Heffernan, Ronin Uftring, Ryan Gray, Emrick O’Brien, Noah Titterington and Roman Synnott also contributed with big hits against a very tough Astros pitching staff. Declan Savage started the game was superior on the mound as he struck out one batter in an inning of work. He was followed by Saija and Tommy Pereira, who also pitched well for the G-men. Uftring, Gray, O’Brien, Guy and Dean Ciampa all played well in the field, highlighted by a big time play from Guy, who cut down an Astros runner at third base with a laser beam throw from right field. On the other side of the field, the Astros’ Kyle Bridge smacked a single and got to balls all over the field on defense and Chris DeFilippo capped off his first pitching stint of the season by striking out the last batter of the inning. John Roofe, Justin Fricia, James Passerini, and Connor Sullivan had two hits each (including doubles by Passerini & Sullivan). Erin McCarthy blasted a booming double as well while Joey Fennelly and Mikey Taylor added singles. The Astros threw some serious leather as well, highlighted by a great catch of a throw at first base by Quinn Stockman. Evan Cummings owned the fourth inning with multiple great plays at third base. Kevin Pruslin made a nice play at second while Passerini, Taylor, Sullivan, Bridge, Fennelly, Fricia, Roofe, and McCarthy also contributed to the defense.
