WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the season by blowing out previously undefeated Wakefield High, 10 to 3, on Monday, April 24 in Wakefield.
Starter Chris Grecco picked up his second win of the season. He pitched 6 strong innings, striking out 6, walking 2, sprinkling 7 hits, and surrendering 3 earned runs. Chris Stokes, making his varsity debut, closed the game out with a clean 7th inning, recording 2 strikeouts and no hits or walks.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, and six runs in the fourth inning. Tom Worob (3-for-3, 2 runs scored, 4 stolen bases) led the offense for Wilmington. Ben Maynard (2-for-4, triple, 2 runs) provided additional firepower. Matt Rideout, Dan Gracia, Dave Woods (3 RBI), and Jared Aucoin also each chipped in with a hit.
Matt Rideout made the defensive play of the game – a spectacular catch in deep center field, saving at least one run, in the third inning.
