NORTH READING, MA — Austin Preparatory School Headmaster James Hickey, Ph.D., is pleased to announce retired Covidien President and Chief Executive Officer Richard J. Meelia of Boston will give the keynote address at graduation in May.
Mr. Meelia is a distinguished alumnus from the class of 1967 and will celebrate his 50th reunion with his classmates during commencement weekend. Last fall, the Reading 6-12 school named its gymnasium Meelia Hall in honor of the dedication and generosity he has shown to many generations of Austin Prep students.
After graduating from Austin Prep, Mr. Meelia received a bachelor’s degree from Saint Anselm College and an MBA from Boston College. At the time of his retirement, Covidien was a leading $11 billion global healthcare products company.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of St. Francis House, Por Cristo, and Saint Anselm College. He is a member of the Board of ConforMis, and also the Chairman of the Board for both Apollo Endosurgery Inc., and Haemonetics.
Austin Prep will graduate 131 students on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
