WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, April 22, 2017.
#1) According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington will see areas of drizzle with a slight chance of rain before 11am, then a slight chance of rain between 11am and noon. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
#2) The Wilmington Town Election takes place TODAY. Polls will be open on Saturday from 8am to 8pm at the Boutwell Early Childhood Center, Wildwood Early Childhood Center, and Town Hall. Not sure where you vote? Click HERE.
SIX candidates are running for TWO seats on the Wilmington School Committee:
- Stephen Bjork (incumbent)
- Jennifer Bryson
- Sabrina Hewitt
- Amy Largenton
- Rhonda Musikar-Rosner
- Kathleen O’Donoghue
FOUR candidates are running for TWO seats on the Wilmington Board of Selectmen:
- Kenneth Dorothy (WRITE-IN CANDIDATE)
- Ed Loud
- Kevin MacDonald
- Mike McCoy (incumbent)
Housing Authority member Stacie Murphy is running for re-election unopposed.
The Town Moderator position, nor either Wilmington seat on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee, are on the ballot this year.
#3) The Aleppo Shriners Circus is holding THREE shows at the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) TODAY at 10am, 2pm and 7pm. Tickets cost $10. Call 1-800-700-0013 to purchase tickets. Tickets will also be available at the Box Office. Parking is free. The circus will include 12 acts, including 4 new elephants and 14 tigers. Proceeds from the carnival will benefit the Auditorium.
#4) Savers, located at 235 Main Street in the Wilmington Crossing Plaza, is holding a fundraiser to benefit the Shawsheen/West PAC. The store is open from 9am to 9:30pm. Savers is seeking donations of clothing, shoes, accessories, bedding/towels, electrical items, toys and games, kitchen items, knick-knacks, and sporting goods. The Shawsheen/West PAC will receive 20 cents per pound for soft goods collected and 10 cents per pound for hard goods collected. Make sure to present the flyer or tell the employees at the drop-off center that you’re donation to support the PAC.
#6) The WHS Boys Varsity Lacrosse team battles Bedford High at Wilmington High School at 10am.
#7) The Wilmington Yardwaste Center on Old Main Street will be open from 9am to 4pm. Learn more HERE.
#8) The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less! Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.
#9) The Wilmington Food Pantry (142 Chestnut Street) is open from 10am to noon for food donation drop-offs. Learn which food items the Pantry is most in need of HERE.
#10) The Wilmington Congregational Church is holding a free Pasta Social from 5pm to 7pm, at the church (220 Middlesex Avenue). Join the church for an evening of fellowship and enjoy some stuffed shells, lasagna, meatballs, and salad. There will also be a devotional and some entertainment.
