WILMINGTON, MA — At their meeting on Monday, April 10, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen took a moment to recognize the Wilmington Youth Hockey Bantam 2 team for winning the state championship.
Head Coach Raymond Mercuri — with some help from his players — recapped the team’s championship run.
“[The players] did a great job. Great teamwork. Great sportsmanship. They were so focused — nothing was going to get in their way. Hard work and dedication paid off,” said the coach.
“We are extremely proud as a town to welcome you here,” responded Selectwoman Judy O’Connell. “You’ve truly been a shining example of what Wilmington stands for. You’ve really put 01887 on the map.”
O’Connell’s colleagues then issued their own congratulatory comments.
The ceremony concluded with each player and coach receiving a certificate from the town.
