WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington is holding its first ever Special Olympics Field Day Games on Thursday, April 27, from 9am to 1pm, at Wilmington High School Athletic Fields.
There are several ways to get involved:
- Donate craft supplies – There will be a crafting station on site for the kids to engage in activities between events. A list of supplies needed and signup sheet can be found on We’re One Wilmington’s website at: http://www.onewilmington.org/volunteer/?sheet_id=21
- Decorate a poster – Show your support by making a poster that will hang at the field showing support for our Special Olympians. WOW will also have a table set up at its 5K on the common on Sunday, April 23rd, for community members to create posters. Posters can be generic or specific to an athlete. If you’d like the first name of an athlete to include on you poster, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Attend the event – Due to transportation and MCAS issues, most students will be unable to attend to cheer on their fellow student athletes. The event is open to the public, so if you are able to take an hour or so out of your day to head over to the WHS athletic fields, it would mean the world to these athletes and make them feel very special to have fans cheering them on!
Craft and poster donations can be dropped off at The Cleaner Spot (209 Main Street, Wilmington) or to 2 West Street in the bin by the front steps.
(NOTE: The above announcement is from We’re One Wilmington.)
