Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber Bestows 1st Annual Business Legacy Award To The Late Carmon Cunningham

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington/Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce awarded the Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award to Carmon Cunningham, posthumously.

The Annual Meeting of the newly expanded Wilmington/Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce took place on March 21st at Windsor Place in Wilmington.  At this meeting, Board of Directors members Nancy Brown and Mike Champoux presented the 1st Annual Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award.  The 1st awardee was announced as the late Carmon Cunningham himself.  Cindy Wurdeman a close friend and colleague of Carmon’s from his store, The Cleaner Spot Dry Cleaner and Tailor, accepted the award on Carmon’s behalf.

Carmon was the owner of the successful Cleaner Spot Dry Cleaners and Tailor at Wilmington Crossing.  He opened his doors in 2009 and immediately embraced every aspect of our community.  He joined the Chamber of Commerce right away, had been on the Board of Directors for 5 years, serving as the President in 2013 and 2014.

Carmon was also very involved in a host of community and business organizations and charitable endeavors; including BNI, WOW, WSBP and others.

There are so many words to describe Carmon:  caring, generous, intelligent, hard-working, respectful, sincere, polished and a true professional.   He cared about every one of his employees and customers.  He had a genuine interest in all their lives and knew everyone by name. Exemplary customer service wasn’t just a good business practice for Carmon it was just who he was and how he lived his life.  True leadership by example.

In the summer of 2016, not long after Carmon’s passing, the Board of Directors agreed that it would be fitting and appropriate to honor his memory and his legacy with an award in his name:

This award will be presented annually at a Chamber Annual Meeting to a member who:

  • has achieved exceptional business success in his/her lifetime
  • inspires, is innovative and makes an impact in our communities
  • transcends business and leaves a legacy of community and economic vitality for generations to come
  • embodies similar characteristics of the late Carmon Cunningham, Owner of The Cleaner Spot Dry Cleaners
  • who embraces Carmon’s work ethic and provides a positive atmosphere making work a better place
  • who is encouraging, supportive, maintains a positive attitude and cheerful disposition and brings life and energy to our community
