LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Bryson Would Be An Asset To School Committee

Dear Editor,

I am writing to recommend Jennifer Bryson for a seat on the Wilmington School Committee.  I have known Jenn for almost 12 years and have witnessed first-hand her passion for education. I believe her dedication to providing quality learning environments for all children, in addition to her experience as a parent, educator, volunteer and advocate, would make her a great addition to the school committee.

Jenn is a career educator, a licensed literacy specialist, and Doctoral candidate whose research is focused on the importance of family involvement in the schools.  She worked as a teacher for 10 years in an elementary school, is currently on the faculty at the Boston University School of Education as the Program Director for Elementary Education and the Faculty Director of Educator Preparation.  In this vital role, she is training the next generation of teachers for their careers in the classroom.  Her work takes her to different schools and inside classrooms throughout Massachusetts and in other countries.

Jenn, who teaches literacy courses and provides professional development in literacy curriculum instruction, tutors struggling readers in K-12 and works closely with parents to meet the needs of their children.  In addition, she volunteers in the Wilmington Schools and has served on both the Boutwell and Shawsheen School Advisory Council and Parents Advisory Council.  Jenn’s experience provides her with an exceptional perspective into curriculum, school policy, operations and budgets.

In her most important role, that of a parent of two young children, Jenn wants to ensure that the future of the Wilmington Public School System provides an excellent education for all children and that the students are prepared for the future.  She understands that for a community to reach its full potential, it must provide the best education possible in its schools.  It is essential that Wilmington has a school system that effectively communicates with all parents, caregivers and the greater Wilmington community. Along with offering a safe learning and nurturing environment it is essential that the Wilmington Public Schools provide opportunities for all children to reach their full potential.   Jenn’s understanding of education goes beyond the classroom and she understands the significant role the arts, athletics and enrichment programming play in a student’s educational journey.

The school committee is important to our community and to the future of our schools.  Jenn Bryson, who has dedicated her life’s work to education, has the talent, knowledge and understanding to be a valuable asset to the Wilmington School Committee and an enthusiastic voice for its citizens.

Respectfully,
G. Walsh
