WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Board of Selectmen gave the green light to several popular community events at its meeting on Monday night.
1.) Selectmen approved the request of Brian Kane, Vice President of Wilmington Little League, to conduct the 9th Annual Little League Parade from the Town Common to Rotary Park in conjunction with Opening Day Ceremonies on Saturday, April 15, 2017. (Saturday, April 22 is the rain date.)
According to league spokesman Hayden Kane, the parade will start at 9:30am from the Fourth of July Building, with players and coaches proceeding down Church Street, ending at Rotary Park. After the Opening Day Ceremonies and Game, the Wilmington Kiwanis will be serving hot dogs to players, coaches and spectators. The Wilmington Minutemen and American Legion Post 136 is scheduled to participate in the festivities.
2.) Selectmen approved the request of Dana Burnham, President of the Wilmington Farmers Market Association, to conduct the Wilmington Farmers Market on the Swain Green on Sundays — June 11, 2017 through October 29, 2017 — from 10am to 1pm. This represents an expansion of the market’s season BY THREE WEEKS compared to 2016. There is expected to be no market on Sunday, July 2 due to the Fun on the Fourth festivities.
3.) Selectmen approved the request of Sue Hendee, PMC Wilmington Kids Ride Coordinator, to close a portion of Carter Lane to conduct the annual PanMass Challenge Wilmington Kids Bike Ride on Sunday, May 21, 2017, from 8am to noon.
4.) Selectmen approved the request of John Romano, Vice President of the Wilmington Sons of Italy, to conduct a Collector Car Show and BBQ at the Swain Green and Municipal Parking Lot on Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 9am to 2pm. This car show has previously been held in the parking lot of Sonic in Wilmington on an annual basis.
