DERRY, NH — Derry Soccer Club (DSC) is excited to announce the hiring of Kevin Flaherty to the position of Director of Coaching.
Kevin brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club. In his youth, Kevin played for North Shore United and Wilmington Youth Soccer. Later in his career he played as junior captain at Colby Sawyer College. After graduation, he was hired as the first assistant coach at Colby Sawyer. Kevin also coached Kearsarge United U14 for a season before moving on to the New England Revolution Academy. As a senior member of the Academy, Kevin is both the speed & finishing manager as well as a RDS Pro Edge coach for the Elite programs in the Academy.
During the fall 2015 season, DSC started a partnership with the New England Revolution Academy. This allowed both Kevin and other Academy coaches to bring the Academy’s curriculum to the players and coaches that make up the club. Over the winter of 2017, the club made the easy decision to bring Kevin on full time as the Director of Coaching.
Kevinʼs focus within DSC will be on the coaches and players of all age groups and his responsibilities will encompass both the recreational and competitive programs.
According to DSC President, Dina Coventry, Kevin is the perfect choice: “We are very pleased to announce this appointment. Kevin will bring leadership and creativity to the soccer programs and has a deep sense of commitment to the club. He is a quality coach and an outstanding person who will help us build this club the right way. He has experience and a track record of developing young players and makes an incredibly positive team environment for all.”
This past fall season, the club added age groups as young as 2 to the Hawks recreational program.
“We were hearing from parents of younger children that they wanted to get their kids involved in soccer. We felt that we finally had the coaching available to the kids that we could make this possible,” said board member Eric Levasseur.
Various specialty clinics added over the past year and a half have grown the soccer education available to players.
