OBITUARY: Joseph J. “Joe” Sullivan, 58

WILMINGTON, MA — Joseph J. Sullivan III, “Joe”, age 58, of Wilmington, formerly of Somerville and Saugus, died unexpectedly on February 18, 2017, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

Joe was born on May 20, 1958, in Cambridge, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Joseph J. Jr. and Lorraine (Lowry) Sullivan. Joe was raised and educated in Somerville and Swampscott and he graduated from Malden Catholic High School with the Class of 1976. Joe went on to further his education at Boston State College and Northeastern University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology in 1980.

Joe worked as a Medical Tech for several years before taking a position with the U. S. Post Office. Joe started his career as a letter carrier in New Hampshire before transferring to Saugus, MA where he worked for over 30 years. Joe was a hard worker and very dependable; no matter the weather conditions you could always count on Joe to do his job.

Joe was a wonderful family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife and kids whether it was at home in Wilmington or his retirement home in South Carolina; the family always had a great time when they were together. Joe also enjoyed his trips to Twin Rivers, his various adventures to “Beer Fest” with his daughter Kristen, his many trips to the beach to soak up the sun, and his daily phone calls from his daughter Ashleigh at college which he was overwhelmingly proud of. Joe looked forward to the family game night at his home where the competition was high and the laughs were plenty. Joe just loved to be with his family and friends.

Joe enjoyed music; he had an eclectic mix of old and new tunes but his all time favorite artist was Linda Ronstadt.

Joe will be fondly remembered as an “all around great guy”; he was fun loving, easy going, and kind hearted. Joe was good to everyone especially his family and friends and he would go out of his way to help anyone in need. Joe was “one of a kind” and he will forever be in the hearts of those he loved.

Joe was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Gallagher) Sullivan, devoted father of Kristen Sullivan of Chelsea, Adam Sullivan of Revere and Ashleigh Sullivan of Wilmington. Cherished son of the late Joseph J. Jr. and Lorraine (Lowry) Sullivan, dear brother of the late Robert and Lori Ellen Sullivan. Son-in-law of James & Sylvia Gallagher of Wilmington, brother-in-law of Rose Sullivan of Maine, James & Mary Gallagher of Wilmington and Paul & Maritza Gallagher of New York. Joe is also survived by his former wife Deborah Sullivan of Cambridge as well as a large, loving extended family and friends. Joe was also very fond of his beloved dog Molly.
