WILMINGTON, MA — Here are 10 things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, January 7, 2017.
#1) According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington will see snow, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 24. Light north wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
#2) The Massachusetts Bridal & Wedding Expo is coming to Wilmington this Saturday, January 7, 11am to 5pm, and Sunday, January 8, 11am to 5pm, at the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road).
The event features more than 100 exhibitors, covering all aspects of the wedding — gowns, florists, hair & makeup, honeymoon destinations, wedding and event planners, guest accommodations & hotels, photographers, videographers, DJs, bands, photo booths, decor & lighting, reception & wedding venues, tuxedos, jewelry and more. Admission costs $10 at the door. You can, however, register in advance online and receive free admission HERE. Children under 16 are free. Parking is free.
#3) The Wilmington Memorial Library’s Writing Group meets at 9:15am. If you love to write and seek feedback, then join our writing group. When registering, please provide your email address so you can receive an agenda and any prep materials in advance. Open to all genres and levels. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.
#4) The Catholic Community of Wilmington and South Tewksbury is holding a clothing & food drive on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8. The Charities Committee is specifically looking for men’s, women’s and children clothing; boys and men’s boots; blankets; sheets; and pillows. All food collected will be donated to the Wilmington and Tewksbury Food Pantries. Donations should be left in Villanova Hall (126 Middlesex Avenue) before or after all weekend masses.
#5) Several Wilmington High School teams are in action today:
- 11:00am — BOYS JV Ice Hockey @ Winchester
- 2:00pm — GIRLS Varsity Ice Hockey vs Wakefield (at Ristuccia Arena)
- 4:00pm — BOYS Varsity Ice Hockey @ Wakefield
#7) The Wilmington Youth Center (126 Middlesex Avenue, Villanova Hall) is open from 7pm to 9:30pm. The Center is for 6th, 7th and 8th graders who live in Wilmington. Learn more about the Center, and how you can sign your child up, HERE.
