SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: Big Issues To Be Discussed At Tonight’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee meets this Wednesday, December 14 at 7pm in the Large Instruction Room at Wilmington High School.

(A closed-door Executive Session meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm.  If completed early, it’s possible the open-session public meeting could begin prior to 7pm.)

There are some newsworthy items on the agenda, including:

  • Interim Superintendent Joanne Benton will present the School Committee with the district’s FY18 preliminary budget.
  • The School Committee will receive an update on how the district’s schools could be configured in the future. (One scenario, for example, would see 1 PreK school, 2 K-Gr. 5 schools, 1 Middle School & 1 High School). The Facility Master Plan Committee will be meeting on Thursday night to further discuss the configuration.
  • Interim Superintendent Benton will provide an update on the district’s Global Child after-school Spanish classes.
  • The School Committee will approve a request from IBM of $2,000 to the Wilmington High School DECA Club.
  • The School Committee will approve a CASIT award of $1,000 to the Wilmington World Language Department.

It also appears the School Committee has made some sort of change to how it approves payroll warrants.  The payroll warrants are now explicitly listed on the agenda.

The meeting will be telecast live by Wilmington Community Television on WCTV-G — Channel 22 on Comcast and Channel 38 on Verizon.  The meeting will also streamed on WCTV’s website HERE.
