KLYIE’S BACK: Wilmington 9-Year-Old Again Raising Funds For Children’s Hospital & Firefighters Toy Drive

WILMINGTON, MA — As the Wilmington Apple reported last year, Wilmington 8-year-old Kylie Plowman asked Santa for at least $500 to donate to the Boston Children’s Hospital and “to buy some Christmas gifts [for] those who didn’t get gifts or stuff they need.”

Her parents decided to crowdfund Kylie’s request via GoFundMe.

Kylie’s story quickly went viral, even picked up by WBZ Boston. Instead of raising $500, Kylie’s parents were able to raise more than $5,000 from 145 donors online!

Kylie and her parents were able to donate more than $2,300 to both the Wilmington Fire Department, in support of their annual Toy Drive for Wilmington Children, and to the Boston Children’s Hospital.

As a result of her generosity, Kylie was recently named a finalist in the Mary Jo Brown Foundation’s 2016 Kindness Award.

Kylie’s family just announced she is repeating her fundraising efforts this year and hopes to raise another $5,000 to benefit the Wilmington Fire Department’s Toy Drive and the Boston Children’s Hospital.  Kylie, now a 4th grader at the West Intermediate, is looking to duplicate last year’s success.
