WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Volleyball team (6-10) defeated Wakefield, 3-1, on Wednesday, October 19 at WHS.

- Set 2: Wilmington – 25, Wakefield – 16
- Set 3: Wilmington – 25, Wakefield – 23
- Set 4: Wilmington – 25, Wakefield – 20
Christina Woods was the Wildcats’ leading serve, hitting each of her 13 serves, including 3 aces. Lauren Field served 93% with 2 aces, including an ace one game point to win the match.
Caroline Andersen lead the team with 9 kills, while Morgan Bresnahan and Heather Pozzi had 8 kills a piece. Bresnahan also recorded 4 unassisted blocks.
“Some of our usual top performers struggled in this match, but were able to grind it out,” says Head Coach Bruce Shainwald. “This was the kind of tough mental performance that I was hoping to see.”
Before, during and after the game on Wednesday night, Captains Abby Shedd and Heather Pozzi helped organize a “Dig Pink” fundraiser. Through a bake sale and gift basket raffle table, the team raised more than $1,200 for the Sideout Foundation’s efforts to provide patient services to breast cancer patients and their families.
