SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: WHS Senior Cecilia Chase Receives Academic Excellence Award

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington High School senior Cecilia Chase received the 2016-2017 Superintendent’s Academic Excellence Award at this week’s Wilmington School Committee Meeting.

Chase, who is among the top 5 students in her class, is taking an extremely challenging curriculum at Wilmington High, consisting of Advanced Placement and Honors classes. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has won numerous academic awards during her time at Wilmington High, including the Bronze Medal in the National Spanish Exam.  Chase serves as the captain of the WHS Girls Varsity Soccer Team.  She participates in the school’s student mentor program and volunteers as a soccer coach for children with disabilities.

The Massachusetts Association of School Committees sponsors the award, on an annual basis, in each Massachusetts Public High School, at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools. The selection of the award is traditionally and in the fall allowing the selected student to include this honor in their credential package.
