BREAKING: School Superintendent Mary DeLai Was Arrested For OUI In August

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Apple has learned that Wilmington Superintendent of Schools Mary DeLai was arrested in Salem (updated 10/2) for an OUI (Liquor) on the evening of August 25th by the Danvers State Police.

Wilmington Apple confirmed the news with the Danvers State Police this morning.

DeLai recently began her third year at the helm of Wilmington Public Schools.

It would appear the Wilmington School Committee just learned of the news within the past few days.  It is believed that the Committee will be meeting behind closed doors in Executive Session on Monday, October 3 at 7pm at the Roman House to discuss the revelation. (See that meeting agenda HERE.)

The Wilmington School Committee is aware of the situation. We will be meeting in Executive Session Monday night. A statement will be made available after that meeting.

Monica Madeja of NECN is reporting that the Essex County District Attorney says this was DeLai’s first OUI, she was arraigned on August 31, and she lost her license for 45 days.

DeLai has not responded to a request for comment from Wilmington Apple.
