WILMINGTON, MA — Veterans Day is a time to thank our veterans for their sacrifice and service to this country, but many of our veterans remain homeless and living in shelters.
Tragic statistics from the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans state that about one third of the adult homeless population in the US is veterans. About 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and over the course of a year approximately twice that experience homelessness. About 1.5 million other veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to lack of support networks and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.
As a way to show our appreciation to veterans past and present this Veterans Day, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Boston is hosting its Movers for Military collection drive to provide essential items to homeless veterans and their families living in crisis this fall.
The following items are on the New England Center and Home for Veterans wish list:
- Bath Towels
- Alcohol-Free Mouthwash
- Feminine Hygiene Products
- White Bed Sheets
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® will partner with local schools, businesses, and other organizations starting early September leading up to Veterans Day, Friday, November 11. These items help make a difference in veterans lives and give them hope with essential care items most people take for granted. This not only positively impacts the veterans in need, but their entire families as well.
Wilmington True Value (264 Main Street) and Pearle Vision (229 Main Street) are both drop-off locations for the program.
